This just popped up in my yard. Anyone have an idea what this is?

Pokeweed, Phytolacca americana.

It's such a valuable medicinal plant!

Just so others know, only use poke with great caution (if at all) and only if you really know what you are doing. Many parts of this plant are toxic enough to kill people when consumed.

True, safety and knowledge do go hand in hand for the safe usage of any plant - even food plants can be problematic if not used/prepared properly. How many have poisoned themselves by eating rhubarb leaves?

I agree with WyldViolet, I wish poke was growing at my place too! Besides a medicinal, it is such a striking plant.
