| Too weakly purple for that particular clonal cultivar, might even instead just be a purple seedling. |

| A purple-leaved European smokebush other than 'Royal Purple' or possibly a 'Royal Purple' that is not showing full color expression due to site conditions. Might have popped up from seed in that spot but was probably bought at a nursery, either produced from seed or vegetative propagation. Various forms have been on the market. Including some variable seed-raised stock that was put out by an Oregon wholesaler some years back incorrectly as 'Royal Purple'. |

| has is bloomed yet? the common sort of smokebush blooms are wispy and smokey colored - I think the Royal variant is the one that blooms pink or purple smoke. |
