Hi,
Can anyone identify this plant, it is growing along a disused railway line in Essex

According to the info at the link below, Oenothera biennis: Naturalized in Britain.

Yes - extremely common in Britain on waste ground, neglected allotments, etc. Now you have your eye in you'll see them all over the place.
