We are and always have been part of Europe geographically speaking. Whitebeams are a varied bunch and there are several species endemic to tiny areas in the British Isles. I love Whitebeams - the foliage colour in spring is unique.

Some US readers might be interested in the giant evergreen oak, Quercus ilex, in the background of your picture. A species which has begun to naturalise on the S coast.
