 o
Bog Plant Identification?

These plants sprouted up in the small bog area of my pond in April. I thinned them out in late May because there were just so many of them and they were growing rapidly. I was interested in identifying them so I kept quite a few, hoping they would flower and aid in identification.

They are growing in a small (150 gallon) pond bog. The bog area is lined with thick rope and sphagnum moss. The rope wicks water from the pond into the bog. These plants sprouted thickly all over the bog and the surrounding areas where there is constant moisture.

Each plant has a single celery-like stalk. The roots seem shallow when pulled, but there is a massive, tangled root system that is growing out into the pond from under the rock that retains the bog. Each stalk grew to approximately 4 foot tall, then flowered. The flowers are small, delicate, and orange in color.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have. I'd really like to identify this plant. I'll try to attach additional pictures of the flowers & plant base after this post.

It is a native plant, Impatiens capensis, known as Jewelweed.
