Name That Plant!

Help ID this crawling ground cover

There's a crawling ground cover that creeps from an adjecent yard into mine. As it ages and spreads the stems become thick and stalky. I've pulled it before but it's relentless and I can't pull it all from my neighboor's yard. Any ideas on what this ground cover is and how to get rid of it? Thanks.

That's Virginia buttonweed, Diodia virginiana. There should be small, 4-petalled white flowers: I think in spring.

It roots as it goes. Small bits of stem, severed with the mower, can become new plants.

Horrible stuff: you have my sympathy.
