Help identifying and maybe saving this guy

Hi all,
I took this plant from my cousin today in an attempt to save it. She got it at Ikea some months back, and says that its been tricky in terms of watering, then started drying out a while back.
Frankly, I'm not sure if the plant is still at all alive or if the situation is hopeless. I also don't know the name (and neither did my cousin).
Any help is greatly appreciated!
