| These plants, now about 2' tall, appeared all over my flower garden this spring. I thinned out a bunch of them but left a few because their foliage was pretty. For a while, only these slightly serrated leaves. Now these spiky clusters are appearing on the top, which I hope will become beautiful flowers but fear they might be something heinous. If so, I want to pull them put before they seed. |

| I looked the flower up, lobelia siphilitica, and other than it likes swampy conditions, it meets ALL the characteristics. It is the type of plant I would buy, but I just have no memory of doing so. My fingers are crossed that you are right, because it's really a beautiful plant. Thanks, Carol. |

| It does looks much like my L. siphilitica which has just begun to bloom in the last week. (I'm also in NY State.) I've seen these growing in the wild in a variety of conditions everything from "swampy" full sun to dry shade. It is possible it may have hitched a ride in the pot of another flower you planted.
