 o
6' tall weed? with purple stem

Does anyone know what this might be? I'm in Pittsburgh, PA and this has been growing at the edge of the woods since before we moved into the house 6 years ago. It dies back every year and sprouts 6' tall every time. The little buds turn into berries. The stem is purplish/pink and is rather sizeable, probably good 1-2" thick.

I can't get your links to work, but your description sounds like pokeweed, Phytolacca americana.

I got to your album which had bittersweet nightshade and pokeweed in it so it looks like poke is a winner!

Let's try this since posting the message didn't convert the text to a link. It has been a while since I've posted anything on here.

Here is a link that might be useful: Mystery plant 1

Yes indeed, Pokeweed. (when I cut & pasted the initial link, I got a "Photobucket Exception" link & could not see the photos)

Thanks! I'd been wondering what that other one with the purple flowers was too. I grew up in west Texas and we didn't have those there so I'm not familiar with them.
