Actinidia?

That⦠is unexpected.
I'm not sure what to do with this plant. To date, it's not listed as invasive in my area. It obviously likes this spot as it germinated there on its own. It grows edible fruit. Any advice?

It's not yet a definite id. Is the stem red and furry? Does it looks as if it is going to grow viney? I can't advise on care because the palatable fruiting ones are not hardy here.

Another possibility is Japanese Wine Berry which also has red furry stems. I've never seen it as a seedling so I can't be sure. let's hope someone else comes along with an opinion.

It is compact and stout at this point. This is about 15 cm (6 in)

Thank you for the help. Someone on the island grows a plant she says starts off similarly: saruma. I don't know if it is indeed saruma. The red hasn't faded and recently the deer ate it down.
