Tall thin green herbaceous in newish wildflower field

Location: In the full sun in Middletown, Delaware, USA, zone 7.

Garden: Two years ago I got rid of some lawn, covered the area with cardboard for a season, and then planted a northeast wildflower mix. I then was away for a year stationed abroad. I have returned to the same house, and the area is jam-packed with black-eyed susans, coreopsis, and perhaps some others I cannot identify.

Type of plant: I would guess it is a herbaceous plant.

Physical characteristics: This plant is green, thin, and tall some are more than six feet tall. It grows multiple branches. After a while this plant gets tangled with the (other?) wildflowers and they all bend down. The stem is smooth, with short (under 3") leaves with multiple small leaves coming regularly off it.

Flowers: I have not yet seen flowers.

Fruit/seeds: I have not yet seen any fruits or seeds.

This plant appears to be growing taller than and sometimes pulling down the wildflowers that are currently blooming, but I don't want to get rid of it if it will be a genuine wildflower of its own at some point.

pdsavage - Ah! Looking at images online, it sure looks like blue flax. Sounds like I should trim it back but that's all. Thank you.

Whatever it is since it's on its way to flowering cutting back now would be poorly timed.

bboy - Thank you - ok, I'll try to limit my trimming to the minimum necessary to free my other plants.
