| I am feeling pretty ashamed at the moment. For the last 6 years I have been calling this plant (ordered from ebay) by the name it was given when I bought it, "chocolate vine." But year after year the blooms were a no show and more and more I wondered if it was what I had really ordered.
So after SIX YEARS, I decided to look it up again. Lo and behold, they sent me something completely different! I feel pretty silly that it took me this long to double check. It is a vine, has tendrils that reach for anything, and well...the leaves look like grape leaves to me, but I wanted to be certain. |

| That could be Vitis rotundifolia (Muscadine Grape). |

| No need to feel embarrassed....mislabled plants from Ebay are so common that it's practically the norm. At least it seems so from the many problems posted in the Gardenweb. I think that every buyer needs to ask for an image before the plant is shipped so that he or she can compare it visually to several internet images. Then, the buyer would have some real evidence of the mistake should the wrong plant still be shipped. |

| Jekeesl, that was my thinking as well as I have about 20 muscadines growing in my greenhouse from seeds I planted in mid winter. The leaves are similar in shape and tooth yet, this plant has been fairly stunted from being potted for so long that the leaves are really small. Rhizo, thanks! Out of all the plants I've ordered, this was the one I never double checked! LOL. In this case, if it is a muscadine, I can't really complain- at least I can get more out of it than a chocolate vine! |
