Thought it was mustard...

they looked similar when they overwintered.

But it's clearly not, now they they've both gone to seed.

What is this plant?

Appears to be gone to seed lettuce. From what I can make out one of the red frilly varieties.

Agreed. Lettuce is a very easy plant to save seed from. Sow seed in august for fall lettuce crops.
