Thanks all of you for helping indentify a lot of the plants in my new yard, I think I am almost half way there in the taxonomy portion of my venture here! What about this cherry tree? Any clue how I can tell what type it is?

Probably Prunus avium. Show closer view of leaves for better results.

Ok, I'll post another pic, are the cherries edible? Are there any cherry tries with poisonous cherries?

Check out "Wildman" Steve Brill's page on the fruit of this tree - link attached. According to the page, there are no dangerous look-a-likes.

You should know that all cherry leaves, pits, etc. do contain poisonous compounds. Yes, they've always been like that. The ripe fruit is safe and very edible. I only mention it because you asked about "poisonous cherries."
