Is this a wild plant or a weed

I have this at three or four places in my yard. In the flower beds? And it is really difficult to take it out... I had to dig in an cut it from the roots. Before I take all of them out, would like to know what is the name of the plant and is it harmful to the flower beds?

Thanks,
Raj

Looks like a Juglans sp. (walnut or butternut). If you scratch a stem does it smell citrusy?

I would agree with that suggestion.

i would be more concerned about it being a few feet from the house.. rather than the bed ... neither are small trees ....

if its in 4 different locations in the yard ... you have to have a rather large momma around ... and it shouldnt be hard to find that rather large green.. lime like nuts ... in fall

and the idiot squirrel that is planting them for you ... lol

the only question i have is.. that if it will resprout from the roots you are leaving there ... if so ... you may need a stump killer on the cuts ... check in the tree forum if you want further info ...
