 o
verbena? gladularia?

I "rescued" this from an area that used to have a lot of wildflowers and now has a lot of new construction.

Are gladularia and verbena synonyms? It reminds me a lot of my verbena Homestead Purple, although not the same color. It's lighter.
I used to have one plant of glandularia canadensis which was more of a pinkish purple and grew lower than this one but maybe they vary.

Verbena

That's what I thought until I looked up Glandularia, at which point I realised I was way out of my depth. These two seem very complicated.

In Weakley's key, he separates the two this way:

Styles > 6 mm long; calyx 8-10 mm long, longer than the fruit; corolla salverform - Glandularia

4 Styles < 3 mm long; calyx 2-4 mm long, often shorter than the fruit; corolla funnelform - Verbena

Sorry, I submitted before I meant to. That looks like Glandularia canadensis (Rose Vervain) to me. That is the only Glandularia species that's common in Missouri, accoring to BONAP.

Thank you! Then verbena and glandularia really are two different things but in the same family, correct?
I'm hoping it will be self-fertile because I only have one plant. I looked for seeds and found a couple but they're pretty skinny so I'm afraid they may be infertile.

You might try cuttings. It is closely related and I think it would work.

Here is a link that might be useful: Rooting Verbena

The Glandularia votes are from more knowledgeable folks, I'll go with that and rescind my earlier input and now think some of my Verbenas have been Glandularias.

Just so it's not a Glandularia disorder.
