Could be, but doesn't look like mine so I was hesitant to mention that species.

That does look like Ruellia caroliniensis to me. That species should have almost sessile flowers in the axils of middle and upper nodes, as shown in your photo. Here is one of our Arkansas examples for comparison.

esh, how is yours different from mine or what makes you think mine may not be R. caroliniensis? I almost always overlook the obvious differences...I'm trying to improve my plant ID'ing skills :)

I feel like mine (and jekeesl's) have pubescent hairs on the leaves that I can't seem to discern on yours. Do you have a 10x hand lens that you can check it with?

Aha! Didn't even need the lens...hairs are definitely present on leaves and stems. Thanks for clarifying, esh!
