help me id this plant

Have just moved house and this shrub/climber/fig is growing the whole way along one fence (about 20ft), out from the wall (about 3ft) and over other trees.
Any idea what it is? Can't see any buds and don't know if it has ever flowered. The leaves are round, not glossy, around 1cm long, alternate. Thanks

Here is a link that might be useful: shrub

This has me completely stumped. It doesn't look like any of the common UK climbers. Looking beyond I see what looks like Cordyline australis. So are you somewhere mild, maybe South West? Or London. (Looking at the bricks and the height of the house). Can you give us a close up of the leaves, please?

Wild guess is Muehlenbeckia, although I have never seen it here, it is sold by Burncoose Nurseries in Cornwall, which I am also wildly guessing, from a glimpse through to your back garden is in your neck of the woods. All total conjecture and possibly complete rubbish.

Flora (and OP), this is definitely Muehlenbeckia axillaris, aka wire vine. In my climate, fully evergreen although usually noted as deciduous or semi-evergreen. IME, a pretty rampant groundcover that adopts climbing tendencies very easily. I've seen it growing 9' up into shrubs and small trees. Takes pruning or cutting back hard very well. Also relatively easy to yank out of the soil if allowed to spread/root into areas where it doesn't belong.

Thanks gardengal, that definitely looks like it. I see it is native to New Zealand... opposite side of world!
Flora, I'm in London, but apparently a horticulturalist owned house about 15 years ago, there is a date palm and a couple of full- grown yuccas in the garden, as well as a lime avenue of sorts that I assume he planted.

Thanks gardengal - I don't recall ever seeing it in this country so the OP's predecessor really was a gardener.

Shwubbery - do come back if you need more ids. Sounds like you have a treasure trove there. Was I way off with the location? SW or London?

Are the limes pleached? An avenue would take up a heck of a lot of space. BTW for our US readers 'lime' is linden to us. Strange but true.
