Does anyone know what this plant is? - it grows wild here in NY - Zone 6 - usually on the edge of woodland. Anywhere from 6-8 feet tall. It grows in isolation, not in a group. I've seen it in both sun and shade. Thanks for any info!

Paulownia ?

I think that's it. Thanks.
|
No doubt about it.
|
Sad to see it invading NY too.

I do a fair amount of trail walking. I wonder if it's worth it to cut these down with my shears when I see them? The woods around here have already been dysregulated by invasive vines, norway maples and herds of deer.

Don't bother unless you paint the stumps with herbicides at once. Your method is just coppicing a tree that thrives on such treatment.

If you cut them down and don't apply herbicide to the cut stump them they will just grow back. Yes, woods aren't what they used to be, are they? And very few people realize that the tangle they're looking at are invasive plants, thinking that mess is what "native" plants look like!
