I think this is a very thin sedge. please help ID it.

Somebody suggested this might be Juncus tenuis (path rush or poverty rush -- that last common name means somebody doesn't like it) and that looks like a possibility.

I did some searches and think it also looks like Carex appalachica (Appalachian sedge)

This picture isn't upside-down but the plant is flattened out in in so it doesn't give a good idea of the overall effect.

Earlier in the season I had this over much of my backyard. Something has been eating them and in some cases just the top of them. For comparison wild garlic is twice as thick. It forms small clumps a bit larger than the clumps I get of wild garlic and the plant is maybe a foot tall at the most. The overall effect looks a bit graceful to me.

The top has light (white or tan) flowers or fruit which are about 1/8-1/4".
