Unknown shrub with white and pink flowers

Hi,

When I moved into my house a mature shrub was at the end of the sidewalk out front. We decided to leave it, but I don't know what it is. Its about 3-4' high and has a 3' diameter. Occasionally white flowers bloom, but only one or two flowers at a time (throughout spring and summer).

Does anyone know what this is?
Thank you!
Tim

The bloom is of the Rose of Sharon, Hybiscus syriaca. Some of the rose of sharon foliage can be spotted farther back in the picture. The foliage in front crowding it is perhaps a buckthorn (?) though not Rhamnus cathartica.

Agree with fata's ID of the flowering shrub. The foliage in front of it looks like lilac to me.

I've walked by that shrub every day for the past two years and always wonder what it is. Now I know! Thank you all for your responses!
