Unidentified, tough plant... What it is?

And what else do you need from me to help make idenitication easier? Different angle pictures? Pull up a baby to see if it's root / rhizome / tuber?

This plant has been here since we moved here six years ago. It's been cut back to the ground several times. I've never seen it flower but that could be because it's been cut back to the ground several times.
At its tallest it was about 2-1/2'.
I think it's evergreen.
The tips of the leaves are pretty sharp - but the leaf is flexible enough that it's not dangerously sharp (like our Spanish Bayonets/yucca are).
It's growing on the NE side of a tall cedar tree, fairly shaded all day.

Thank you, thank you! It's one of the last unidentified tough, been-cut-down-but-rallied-back plants around my house.
