A standing volunteer plant, currently about 3 feet high with leaves about the size of a hand. It produces a small pumkin orange flower, then a pod that resembles a poppy appears. We're letting it go just to see what it does.

The plant looks like a seedling Royal Paulownia, but the flowers definitely do not. Are you sure the flowers are on the same plant?

Yes, I reckon that's an abutilon. Related to Hibiscus.

Thanks Noinwi! The velvet leaf has been removed- the neighbor complained 'But it was doing so well!' :)

They are really noxious weeds in my vegetable gardens. I let one come to flower one time just to identify it. I don't do that anymore.
