Identist this plant

Hey there, I need a favor.

I live the greater Toronto area in Ontario, Canada. The plant/weed pictured here grows in a catwalk linking a street to a local park. When you touch it you instantly feel needles under the skin and break out in hives . I'm not the only one with this issue, my friends have also experienced this over the years.

Ran into it again the other day, want to finally know wtf it is.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Stinging nettle. It is worth reading the Wikipedia page about it, as it's kind of an interesting plant. I've been known to eat it now and then.

And the internet wins. 7 minutes to answer a question that has been bugging me for years.

Thanks. I went back and took a second look tonight, can definitely see the barbs on the plant. Thanks!
