 o
Callirhoe?

Hi All,
I don't remember how the plant got there, lol. It was there blooming for the first time this year which leads me to assume I started it from seed.
I though it was regular Purple Poppy Mallow, but the pics I see show a different flower and a white base. It is just a natural variation? Or is it another species?
Thanks,
Remy

Bumping since my post has fallen to the second page. But I can't believe no one has any ideas about this plant.

Remy, I cannot say. Here's a link to a photo in the USDA database with a flower looking similar to yours. Is your flower a true red?

Here is a link that might be useful: Callirhoe involucrata

Carol,
The color is deeper and more purplish than my photo if I remember correctly. The photo is from June. It stopped blooming once the drought got bad. Now that rain came, maybe it will bloom again.
The no white at the base confused me a bit, but I know coloration of species can vary. It is the shape that threw me for a loop. I have seeds and was going to list them on my site, and when I went looking for info, I realized my photo didn't look like any I had seen of C. involucrata.
The one in your link has a bit of the waviness to the edges. So maybe I do just have a neat variation of the species?

I am sure it is a callirhoe but maybe digitata rather than involucrata. It also looks as though yours might be growing in a more shady area where perhaps it is not bleaching out like those grown in full sun. Or perhaps just a lucky variation.
