Weird fast growing plant in the backyard

Dear Fellow Gardeners,

The plant as attached in the photo appeared in my backyard in less than a month and have grown to around 3 feet tall already. The stem is redish near the bottom, and the small white flowers first appear as a string of tiny green bulbs, as on the left of the photo. I appreciate your help identifying the plant.

Thanks,

Albert

Pokeweed.

Very poisonous too. Not too many animals are dumb enough to eat it but you might want to get rid of it.

People eat this plant as greens but it must be boiled in three waters first. Then you put more water to cover and season as desired. Some people then drain it and scramble eggs in the greens.

It is a large and beautiful native plant in the right location. It is perennial and will come back each year if you keep it.

Toxicity shouldn't be the only reason to get rid of a plant. LOTS of plants are toxic/not healthy to go nibbling on including many people willing plant in their gardens and keep in their house.

I have a huge one in the corner of my yard. It was there when I bought the house. Now I have a name for this beauty. Thank you!
