Melon maybe?

I've planted several kinds of melon in my garden, including some kind of an asian melon. I've also planted lemon cucumbers. I'm a complete gardening newbie and I've got lots of vines sprawling up through my tomato cages (you might notice tomato leaves in this photo, as these two babies are hanging out beneath a tomato plant), underneath squash plants and up through my green beans. I've got quite a few of these little things growing in several places throughout my garden. Can anyone tell me the specific name of this plant? Also, approximately how long will it take to ripen and what should I look for in order to know when it is the right time to pick it?

Thanks so much for any helpful information that can be provided!

Maybe chayote.

RE: Melon maybe?

In zone 5, I don't think it can be chayote. I seem to recall reading they need a long growing season and that cuts out us Northern Gardeners - which I'm assuming the zone 5 OP is.

This is still an immature fruit from the looks of it. Wait until it starts to change color - few things stay this green and repost. But...the fruit reminds me of a "silver line melon" so you may wish to compare to that.

Good eye, FataMorgana :) ... I take it that "silver line melon" is the same as Korean melon?

I'm going to harvest this one in the morning for breakfast!

Thanks so much for the help in identification!
