Hi All;

Hoping someone can help on this one-
A friend has found this "weed" growing in her garden this year. I have not seen it, only in this picture. She describes it looking like a squash plant only standing upright with simmilar sized leaves and small yellow flowers. Growing in Northern Ont. and was not planted by garden owner and only appeared this year.

Thanks
Jeff

It appears to be Abutilon theophrasti, Vevetleaf.

Here is a link that might be useful: Abutilon theophrasti

When it first showed up in my garden, I too thought it something in the squash family. The seed pods are cool, but jeez these things get BIG.

RE: odd plant

Seems like a common request for an ID - perhaps one to add along with mulberry, jack-in-the-pulpit seed heads, Paulownia tomentosa, tree of heaven, hibiscus trionum, and pokeweed to a "commonly requested" in the faq's.
