New yard - new plants!

Does anyone know what this tree is in the backyard with dark foliage?

I'm also wondering what the bush is on the side of the house.

The last picture is a repeat - no one could figure out what it was and I thought I would try again. Any ideas what this is?

Thanks!

I'm obviously doing this incorrectly...How do I post multiple images in one post from photobucket?

The red plant appears to be an Amaranthus.
From Photobucket, copy, then paste the HTML line here directly on your post, not in a link! You can paste all the photos together.

Do you have pictures of the leaves of the bush and the tree? Those pictures are nice habitat pictures, but we'd need more details.

It would be better if there were closup pictures of the shrub and tree.

But I'm taking a stab anyway.

The shrub, if it's evergreen and blooms in the fall and because its growing in the shade, looks like a Camelia susanqua -maybe.

The tree, look slike either a purpleleaf sand cherry (Prunus x cistena) or a bloodgood Japanese maple (Acer palmatum).

We'd like to know the location. What state?

The dark leaf tree could also be a 'Crimson King' Norway maple, Purple leaf Plum, or even a dark leafed crabapple. Can you get a picture of the leaf?

Zone 5 would be pushing it for Camellias. I think it's something else. Would need a picture of the leaves.

I've seen that dark tree in New York. I thought it was a plum, and I thought it was just a large version of the dark-leaved bushes planted along I-5 around San Diego, California, but I could be wrong.
