| Hi All! This was found on the beach in New Jersey. I'm not even sure if it's a plant or an animal or none of the above. Does anyone know? One of our party thought it was a plant pod, or a egg casing from a sea animal. Another thought it was part of a child's toy! Anybody?

...and it's a non-native invasive species that is regulated in many states. Your local county weed control board might be interested to hear about your sighting. The fact that you found it at the beach means that it was carried there from a freshwater source.

I read about it after I got the ID. I live near the Hudson River which apparently has a real problem. Thank goodness we have groups that are working hard to stop these invasive species. I was at the Jersey shore when I found this one. How do you find the agency to report such things?

In NY, I'd probably start with the DEC. FataMorgana

Well I got a reply to my letter regarding this item. The man who wrote said that there are no fresh water sources in the area where this was found and therefore it was somehow transported to the beach and is of no concern since these trees will not grow in a salt water environment.
