Interesting evergreen

We are trying to figure out what this is. It keeps its leaves all year long, though they do change colour. The fruit sort of looks like a mini starfruit.

More pictures to come.

Euonymus?

RE: Interesting evergreen

Euonymus nanus 'Turkestanicus' or something similar?

The inside of the seed capsule resembles the one on my euonymus (an unknown variegated upright planted by the Previous Owners), and is much the same size. However, my euonymus seed capsules hold only one seed per chamber, and the seeds are pointed at both ends, at least when dry.

Apparently the Turkestan is supposed to have decorative, pendant seed capsules, very different from the ones in the photo. But then the one in the photo appears to be in very bad health; who knows what it looks like normally....

Thank you Thedecoguy and missingtheobvious :)

Yes, the ones at my condo (pictures from February) are very beautiful. The one we were trying to indentify at a school is in rough shape!
