Experts,
Can you tell me what plant this is growing in my veg garden? The leaves smelled like basil so I didnt pull it. The insects appear to be enjoying the leaves as you can see. Also, curious as to what the smaller plant is as well.

Sure looks like Pokeweed to me - but not sure about the basil-scented leaves, don't recall Poke having a scent.....

Thanks Carolb! I was thinking Pokeweed would have some red showing in the leaves or stems. I looked it up and I didnt realize some people ate it!

That apparent cluster of flower buds at the top doesn't quite look like pokeweed. Can you show a closer picture of the top?

Oh, I'm glad some US posters have joined in. I, too, thought the buds looked wrong but poke isn't very familiar to me so I wasn't certain. Maybe we can see the flowers when they come out?

Guessing you have a Pluchea species of some sort.
Mine are quite stinky!
