Identify plant with hairy stem

I live in Michigan. I saw this plant growing near a bed of hostas. It looks, smells, and feels like a plant that I had eaten as a vegetable in Nepal but can't think of the name.
It's got a hairy stem, and shallow roots. The stem has a "crispness" when broken. The leaves are narrow and serrated.
