Thought it was....

Thought it was smooth sumac, but now I'm not so sure. It's taking over my backyard runner by runner, sending up shoots wherever it can. I've dug a lot of trees & stumps out this year but I know if I don't stay on top of it, it will just come back. The wood itself is very soft, as you can bend a 10 ft high stalk easily and snap it in half. It does NOT stink when you break it. It sort of smells citrusy. My hands get sticky and black after handling it but I've never developed a rash. Today I noticed some sort of greenish yellowish pod on one of the taller 'trees', then noticed another one. Here is the pod as well as a branch in comparison to a quarter. What the heck is it, and how do I get rid of it (can I just dig it out successfully as I have been?)?
