Autumn joy sedum? Depends on the flower color.

Sedum spectabile. Yes, it's a perennial that dies back to the ground in winter and re-emerges in late Spring.

Sedum, but not 'Autumn Joy'. The florets are not as dense or round like those of Autumn Joy.

Autumn Joy looses a lot of the full, round florets if grown without adequate sunlight. I have a few specimen like those shown in the picture victims of trees maturing and changing their exposure.

I shear mine in half in June so they don't flop over in September. Those are planted in very good soil. A better way to treat them is to plant them in poor sunny soil with a minimum amount of water.
I have one plant in a shallow pot in the sun and it does fine without shearing or water.
