It's not an elm, it's a herbaceous plant..but I can't tell what it is based on this. The leaves have too much powdery mildew on them...and there's no flowers.

Perhaps someone else will have a better notion.

i dont ID my weeds.. i kill them ... but i hang here.. to find out ...

and its not a tree.. nor an elm ...

if i am not mistake.. for the ID gurus.. the seed head of it.. is at the bottom right ... must have been a healthy swath of them ...

i just mowed 3 acres.. i dont know if i can recall where it was out there.. if i can find it.. i will report back.. if that is not the seed head ...

Here's another picture of it.

Verbena urticifolia, white vervain. It is native and tends to occur in disturbed areas.

Oh yeah...I knew I'd seen it. Verbena had just occurred to me when I read Ken's reply...thanks Lycopus for exact id.
