 o
Small-flowered Hypericum

Hypericum mutilum is common here, with plants 4-36 inches tall that are densely covered with flowers a bit under 0.25 inch across. Some of the characteristics (like sepal shape, amount of leaf clasping, leaf tips) seem to vary more than the literature suggests. We also have another group that grow along shaded forest roads. Those, too, have flowers under 0.25 inch across, are usually 1-2 feet tall, and have widely spread inflorescences with flowers on relatively long peduncles. I'm thinking those could be H. gymnanthum, but am not confident of the i.d. Can you determine species from the two photos?

I think you need to show one good close up picture of where a large leaf meets the stem.

Based on the capsule it appears to be H. mutilum. The capsules of H. gymnanthum are said to taper more gradually to the apex.

I don't have any more pictures. The ones shown are a couple of months old. But, as lycopus said, it is probably H. mutilum. I may collect a couple of plants and send them in for an "official" i.d. next year.

Thanks.
