Mossy looking balls hanging from a tree in Houston What are they?

I was in Houston yesterday at the VA and in one of the trees were a lot of ball looking things, Can you tell me what they are? I brought one home with me... Thanks! Trish

Tillandsia recurvata, an epiphytic bromiliad commonly called 'ball moss '. It is a close relative of Spanish moss, Tillandsia usenoides.

In some locations, this epiphyte is considered something of a problem.
