What the heck is this shrub/small tree

What the heck is it? I've tried googling everything I can think of, but the closest google gives me is pyracantha. The leaves look almost fan-shaped to me but it's not a ginkgo as far as I can tell. Thorns are about...an inch and a half I'd say?

The whole thing was laden with orange/yellow berries or drupes each the size of maybe a fat blueberry, and each containing a few seeds in the middle. Dunno if it's poisonous but I tasted one. It had a texture similar to a maraschino cherry.

I've seen 3 or 4 bushes about 4 feet high, but one had grown into a scraggly small tree about 8 feet. So, am I dreaming this bush or what? Why does nobody know what it is?

buckthorn?

I think the sea buckthorn have long narrow leaves so I'm doubtful it is that though the fruit looks a close match.

But whatever it is, good thing it's not poisonous else Thatguyfromflorida would be sick or dead. ;)

Are there different kinds? Couple years ago a 'tree' in my yard was ID'd here as buckthorn. Just went to look at it again, looks the same to me but I'm certainly not an expert on such matters and the pic looks like the bottom of the leaves.

could it be a member of the currant family? the thorns and leaf shape are similar to those, possible the fruit too.

Hawthorn? (Crataegus) Fruit would be similar to an apple with multiple seeds.

Crataegus flava?

Here is a link that might be useful: Crataegus flava

Looks like we have a winner! I'm not sure of the exact species but this does look like some kind of hawthorn. It just didn't look the the hawthorn that came up when I googled just "hawthorn" or "hawthorn berries."

It's a shame it took me months to figure this one out. I would have had buckets of these berries. Now they're hawthorn raisins on the ground.

Main reason I didn't recognize the "flava" species is that the one picture shows what looks like a spiky berry. Turns out that stuff just grows on the fruit and then breaks off, giving it the spotted appearance it takes on. Thank you guys so much. I was losing sleep over this.

Glad you're so happy, and glad to be wrong about this one!
