What is this Ivy?

Posted by goldmoon z5 OH (My Page) on

I have dogs who seems to get rashes and I already removed some poison ivies from the yard. ( I know because I had not taken enough precautions to do it and suffered because of it.) Now I am always worried when I see any kinds of ivy.
Could anyone help me identify this ivy or at least tell me if I should be extra cautious touching it?
Thanks in advance for any input.

looks like virginia creeper, a member of the grape family. turns bright red in fall? if correct, it is not poisonous.

I do not know of its behavior in fall since this only grew during the last month or so but you are right it does look like it.

Thanks a lot for your input :)

Allergic reactions are common with Virginia Creeper. If you have a tendency to be sensitive to plants oils, you should wear gloves when pulling the Virginia Creeper from your home. Which you should do soon, by the way. Don't let it get a good grip on the siding.

Can't tell from the pic if it has those little sticky tendrils or not. Might be false virginia creeper. That's the only difference I know between the two. Berries aren't edible but birds like them. They make an attractive cover but watch out because it will take over.
