| Hi there Everyone,
A friend just gave me this plant, and called it a bonsai, but in my [limited] experience, I have never seen a bonsai with broad leaves like this. It doesn't look like a miniature tree at all. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks!!

| Some kind of probably tropical tree or shrub that has been cut down low, turned into sprouting stumps. If it was being developed as a bonsai before that effect has now been lost. |

| I'm wondering if it is Brunfelsia pauciflora. I have a very neglected potted one which looks very similar to this. |

| With that green bud, I would say Ficus. Not Ficus benjamina though, maybe Ficus microcarpa. If you break a part of the plant, does it produce milky latex like a poinsettia? |

| Looks like it's getting sunburned or has spider mites. |

| Thank you all for your responses! I would not have considered the possibility of Brunfelsia pauciflora, but here is a similar picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/xtolord/4796088392/#/photos/xtolord/47954
