Name That Plant!

ID of wild flower.

My daughter received the seed for this plant embedded in a sympathy card. She is wanting to know what it is and if it will come back next year. It hasn't bloomed yet, so I haven't been able to ID it for her. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

It's at my daughter's house. This is the best she can do with her camera and still keep it in focus. She said the leaves are smooth, not fuzzy. I
