 o
unlabeled perennial

Picked this up at a local nursery today sitting alone without a tag but with sun perennials. Gallon pot, opposite leaves, new growth is purplish. The checkout lady had no idea. I bought it because it looks drought tolerant and maybe evergreen. What can it be?
Thanks!

Hebe, a tender evergreen shrub.

Thanks for the id! I looked it up and think you are right. Any idea which one? I had a hebe years ago here in NC and it died. I hope I can keep this one alive. I understand it grows best in its native New Zealand and on our west coast USA. Why are they selling it here? Or is this one able to endure our heat and humidity and hot summer nights?

andreap - there are hundreds of Hebes. Lots of species and many, many hybrids and cultivars so it is well nigh impossible to name yours from the leaves alone. They thrive in the UK except for colder Northern areas. They are salt tolerant and frequently used in coastal gardens. They are shrubs rather than herbaceous perennial. I don't know how well it would do in your climate but it already appears to have some sort of mould on it, which I have never seen on Hebes here. Maybe not a good sign. All you can do is try it and see.

This one is Nicola's Blush in my garden.
