Really tall Weedlike plant

This is growing in profusion in a friends cutting garden. She tells me her husband purchased it, and she has never seen it bloom. It is 6-8 ft tall, full sun. Blooms are appearing on top third of stalk, and arise from the leaf axil. Buds are about 1/2 inch, with soft sepal, and often are multiple blooms.

My friend needs help removing these, but we want to know what they are first. Thanks for the help!!

None have opened yet, but when I pry them open it seems like they will be white. Many thread like petals with green ends.

The flower buds remind me of a Helianthus.

When they open, post another picture. It does seem similar to Helianthus and perhaps the flowers are not developed enough to show yellow when you open them.

Could it be Helianthus maximilliani? (I have never seen it myself)

Thanks all!! I will visit for a week or so, and try to find this helianthus suspect blooming. Image searching shows definite similarities, in flower structure, and blooming time. I'll post images as I can.

Please include a habit shot. Closeups are handy but
the overall character of the plant is important as well.
