| This Mahonia is growing in zone 7b and has probably seen low single digits or colder in it's lifetime.
The most likley plant would seem to be a Mahonia x media (Mahonia lomariifolia X Mahonia japonica.) But I've never seen a picture of one with this many leaflets, so it could very well be another type of hybrid or species. I don't think it is Mahonia lomarifolia, because from what I've read it will die in the upper single digits to low teens. Plus Mahonia lomarifolia is one of the largest Mahonia plants. The one in the picture is a small to medium sized Mahonia. Anybody know? Any help would be very appreciated.
Looks like it it has an average of about 6 spines per leaflet (If tip is included it would be 7 spines on average). Some leaves I think have up to 8 spines per leaflet (that would be 9 if tip is included):

| Might be a hybrid hybrid! Never heard of this one before, thanks for the lesson. I have seen several mahoberberis crosses, but not this pure Mahonia cross. Interesting. hortster |
