Name That Plant!

Small Mudflat Plant

These tiny mudflat plants were in heavy shade. They were somewhat upright, with opposite leaves and flowers pin-sized in leaf axils. Stems were grooved on one side. The flowers had tubular bases, four calyxes, and four alternating pink petals. Flowers were only about 2 mm long.

Perhaps another Ludwegia.

Thanks lycopus. I thought it was Ludwigia repens, but the petals were only 0.5 mm long. The descriptions I found said petals should be longer, and yellow instead of pink. You should see those flowers under the microscope - they're gorgeous.

Well, I ran this one down. It is most likely Oldenlandia boscii (Bosc's mille grains). Most of the O. boscii photos on the Internet show different species, but the link below provides ID support. I also got a better photo for comparison.

Didn't know that one. The 4-merous flowers fits with the Rubiaceae.
