Name That Plant!

What is it?

This flower is growing wild in my field. I tried to transplant one to my flower garden but it died. It was almost 3 ft tall and the root system was similar to a tuber type like an iris but it was growing vertically down in the ground. Not horizontally and close to the surface like an iris does. Any idea what it is and can it be successfully transplanted?

It is butterfly weed .Asclepias tuberosa very difficult to transplant due to long tap root. Easier to grow from seed .
