 o
type of Lilac?

When we moved to this house over 5 years ago, there were 3, very large, mature Lilacs growing close together. In another part of the same bed was a shrub, similar in size but with very different leaves and a slightly later, less fragrant bloom. I figured it was another variety of Lilac. Then someone insisted to me that it was a Spirea.
Now I'm questioning that assessment. It doesn't really look like either plant. AND it just started blooming for a second time. I'd love an I.D.
Thanks!

Compare it to Syringa 'James MacFarlane'.

Thank you both! And buckeye15, it is indeed (as far as I can tell) a Syringa x prestoniae 'James MacFarlane'!
Since it's re-blooming a little right now, could I prune it back just a bit after the blooms fade? Or will I be sacrificing the spring blooms for next year?
