Don't know what this is

So, was clearing out a spot in some bush and found this. It is pretty much the only one of it's kind that I've seen around here and am wondering what it is. It's probably something simple, but I've never seen it before...

Wow..wow. wow ...you must have the one with purple flower since the stem is purple.
I only have the green flower....so cool. A beautiful native. Lucky you.

I hope you didn't clear it :)

Oh, dear: I didn't think about the angle of the photo!

If you cut it off at the ground, it will probably come back next year? If you pulled it, re-planting the root might work (they're sold bare-root).

Ok thanks :)
The stem was broken so I picked it up. Hopefully I'll spot more...

It's late enough in the year, that it probably took little to no harm, but perhaps you marked where it is for next year ? (so that no harm comes to it...like mowing)

Those berries would be bright red later in the fall. It grows from a tuber, I think, so it ought to return next year. They're fairly common. That's a nice big one.
