I've got it too...and all I could think of was Solanum as well, I think I once keyed it out and it was...but well, i don't remember.

Solanaceae is correct. It's Lycium barbarum, Goji Berry. Guessing you're in the South, maybe not too far from the sea??

How on earth did worlds of Goji berry (and yes, that's what I typed it out to...I remember now), get to the middle of Arkansas on a rural county road? Noone here has probably even heard of Goji's (though I've eaten and I don't like).

I had a couple, but the slugs ate them as if they were dessert before I discovered the damage and could save them.

Hey dbarron. That's a plant that I'd like to see. It is common in Oklahoma, and scattered in Northern AR, but not usually seen in South-central AR. Any chance you could provide a GPS or decent directions? I'm probably not too far from the site.
